Veronica George Gallery has been a constant on High Street over the past decade. Veronica George Gallery specialises in art glass and jewellery by Australian artists and houses unique glass pieces. Having opened the gallery 19 years ago, she has witnessed a forever changing street. We speak to Veronica about her passion for glass art and her magical collection.

What sparked your interest in Glass Art?
I have always had a passion for glass art, both in terms of how it is made and how it first came to be made. The magical process of transforming a bubble of glass into a vessel or sculptural shape is thrilling to watch. Although glass design has changed over the centuries, historic styles continue to be a strong influence.

Jewellery, Bowls, Vases, Platters, Jugs all have their origins from ancient times. Beads from Mesopotamia, and works by the ancient Egyptians and Romans.

Tell us more about the artists featured in your gallery.
The entire collection of glass in our gallery is by Australian artists. They are well regarded internationally; I only wish I had more space to represent more. I have a few favourite Australian artists, but I do not like to compare their work as they are all great glass makers using a variety of challenging techniques.

You specialise in both glass art and jewellery, why is that?
It seemed a perfect match to include Australian hand made jewellery. The talent, imagination and skill to create the gorgeous earrings, rings, necklaces and bracelets is always a surprise to me.
